LET’S PLAY, LEARN AND GROW -TOGETHER
At Beacons’ Crèche and Preschool, we offer a customized curriculum based on the emergent approach as guided by Ontario’s HDLH pedagogy and ELECT frameworks. Our program is also inspired by the well-researched, and renowned HighScopeTM model, resulting in an emphasis on the holistic approach to caring for the children’s cognitive, social and emotional, physical development and health, language, literacy and communication, creative arts, mathematics, STEM, and positive active participatory learning aspects.
We acknowledge that children are competent, creative, capable of complex thinking and rich in potential. Which is why we employ a child-led, adult-facilitated approach in our interactions. We prioritize belonging, well-being, engagement, and expression, focusing on positive interaction, communication, self-regulation, and collaboration with community partners. Our values are reflected in our program goals:

- 3. Expression: Encourage children to express themselves freely.
- 4. Engagement: Incorporate indoor and outdoor play, rest, and communication with parents.
Our curriculum is designed to support the children’s holistic well-being, learning, and development through child-centred and play-based learning experiences. We observe and support children’s thinking to promote lifelong learning and celebrate diversity by facilitating cultural exchanges and language skill development.
Communication
To further enhance our program and provide better care for children, our educators will actively engage with families to better understand their needs. We will utilize the Brightwheel child management system to streamline the drop-off and pick-up process and provide real-time updates to parents on their child’s activities throughout the day. This will include detailed reports on their meals, naps, diaper changes, and updates on any developmental milestones they achieve. Parents will receive regular pictures and videos of their children’s daily highlights via the Brightwheel app to further strengthen the bond between families and their children.
Wellness and Wellbeing
We prioritize nutritious menus, healthy eating habits, daily physical exercise and movement, walks to the park, and mental health care. With the children, we also take the time to stay grounded with daily child-appropriate breathing m, stretching and yoga exercises while affirming that we are enough and capable. Anchor Café is a hub of resources for yummy-looking and healthy food which the children are encouraged to serve themselves and enjoy their meal in a community setting. Our interest in and respect for diversity also shows itself on our menu, and we discuss the origins of some foods to learn more about different places in the world. Anchor Café also provides the utensils and ingredients, the children can use to build on their motor and life skills by preparing simple snacks under the close supervision and guidance of their teachers.
Safety
The safety of the children, employees and visitors to our Centre is our high priority. We have installed cameras to monitor all the spaces, but for the children, the cameras do not replace touch, sight and sound supervision. We observe high standards of health and safety protocols with regular fire drills and a comprehensive health and safety plan for our Centre. There are sanitation stations for hands in our entryway, and face masks are available on demand. Access to our Centre is limited to authorized people only, who have a QR code and FOB key. Only the parent-approved person authorized to pick up a child can exit our premises with them once the official on duty has verified the person‘s identity. Brightwheel is our preferred childcare management app, which we use to securely communicate with parents and send them videos and photos of the highlights of their child’s day. We spare no effort to ensure that the personal data of our students, families and employees are protected and regularly remind our clients and staff of the data protection and confidentiality policy.
Enrichment
Our enrichment program offers various activities, including cooking, drama, art, music, sports, games, learning foreign languages, and crafting. We invite community members to inspire children to learn more about what happens around them, and partner with specialists in recreational programs. We use age appropriate OSMOTM games and interactive TV programs, helping children develop cognitive, problem-solving, and social skills. Our program aims to help children discover their potential, become well-rounded individuals, and enjoy learning.
